Operation/maintenance
Each bandsaw blade is a precision tool and should be treated with care and installed correctly in the bandsaw machine. You can maintain excellent blade performance by following the simple procedures described below.
- Develop a fixed schedule for inspecting, cleaning and maintaining you sawing equipment.
- Make sure that a bandsaw blade is correctly fitted. Adjust the relevant parts of the bandsaw to ensure the blade runs in the middle of the guide slot.
- Always use the right tension for the bandsaw blade; excessive tension may cause the blade to break.
- If you are cutting food or wood manually, always cut through the material straight and never twist the blade when working. Don’t push the material but let the blade work itself through it with light pressure.
- When cutting food products, keep bandsaw drive-wheels clean and check the scrapers regularly as a precautionary safety measure.
- If the bandsaw is fitted with scrapers, never let them come into contact with the saw teeth.
- Adjust the bandsaw back rests so that they give the blade support only when it is working.
